Bhupen Hazarika Jajabor Music Festival on November 5th in Guwahati

For Immediate Release

Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Foundation [DBHF] will launch its first annual Bhupen Hazarika Jajabor* Music Festival on November 5th in Guwahati. Our aim is to stimulate interest in the many and diverse aspects of Bhupenda’s legacy ranging from music and the arts, to education, to the pursuit of social change and justice.

[Kindly participate in our survey—see NOTE* at the end of this article—regarding the adoption of ‘jajabor’ in the festival name.]

Our plan is to celebrate his life with his fans in India even as we find ways to introduce his work internationally. As Bhupenda chose music and communication of ideas to bring people together, we too seek ways to employ music and mass communication to convey his message to ‘remember to be human by respecting each other as humans!’  Toward that end, his song Manuhe Manuhor Baabe, which has been translated into over twenty different languages, will be the foundation’s anthem.

The festival’s aim is to celebrate Bhupen Hazarika by encouraging the discovery of all the perspectives, sensitivities, prescriptions, and flights of vision in his work. We invite a wide variety of groups and individuals to participate, recognizing that his songs give voice to the many not heard, providing hope and direction to those who seek traditional and new ways of building a better world. We believe this is the best way to acknowledge his presence of mind, his exercise of reason and his support of individuality, freedom and humanity he showed throughout his work.

We celebrate the spirit of jajabors, wanderers and soul adventurers who dive deep into creative depths to discover treasures that all people can enjoy in a spirit of harmony.

Thus, we sincerely hope that our annual Jajabor* Music Festival will serve to create better understanding between people, cultures and nations.  By highlighting the universal commonwealth we all share in humanity’s artistic creations, we hope to develop it into an international cultural festival in the years to come.

This year, Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Foundation will host a two-day program of live performances on stage in parallel with a social networking & marketing fair with booths available for cultural, educational and commercial groups and individuals. The Foundation will also host educational forums and presentations by speakers on critical subjects.

Details about the ‘1001 ways’ to participate in our celebration will be announced in the near future.  Simultaneous co-celebrations in your own city are not only possible, but welcome.

I’ve penned a song for Bhupenda, which is sung by one of well-known singer and preformed in a few school programme. It is really glad to see a good deal of appreciation after performance. We have been in an effort to record the song. So, we will be highly pleased to receive your kind help in giving a full bloom to our dream regarding this tribute to our beloved music legend.

Great effort. Bhupenda was really a JAJABOR, a great humanist.

    “মানৱতা মোৰ প্ৰিয় বিষয়
    ভাবিলেও সুখ আনন্দ হয়
    যেন ওৰেটো জীৱন
    গাই মানুহৰ গান
    মানুহক দিওঁ সন্মান ৷”
